With her animated prose, Cheney brings to life and strife and turbulence of the times after the American Revolution. The gorgeous illustrations sweep across the page, drawing the reader in. Each two page spread also includes a quote from someone experiencing the situation, giving greater depth to the text. Cheney paints a realistic portrait of the time, yet in understandable terms for the younger child.
