Handel, Who Knew What He Liked by M. T. Anderson, illus. by Kevin Hawkes, Candlewick, pbk. 2004, (Also hc) 48 pp. Ages: 9-12
With wit, M. T. Anderson introduces us to the composer, Handel. Beginning with his youth, we learn about a determined young man who loves music and wants to share his love of music with others--against the objections of his father. This is an entertaining as well as informative biography. Who would have thought a boy could be so clever as to sneak a clavichord into the attic without his parent's knowledge?
The delightful illustrations blend perfectly with the story, creating both drama and a mischievous twinkle of fun.
